 Kahului
is the industrial center of the island. While the looks of the
town may not be what most expect, every part of Maui is diverse
and has its own special charm.
What Kahului may lack
in lush tropical beauty, it makes up for in other ways. You
will find the basic necessities a bit cheaper here than on the
other areas of Maui.
 Wailuku,
which is situated at the foot of the West Maui Mountains,
is considerably older than its neighbor Kahului.
You'll find State &
County government offices are located here, along with the historic
Market Street area. Lined with antique stores, pawn shops, fascinating
boutiques and the landmark Iao Theater; old Wailuku Town provides
a glimpse back to an earlier time in Maui's history.

Maui - Sites To See: |
Kanaha
Pond: As you
are coming out of the airport following Kaahumanu Ave (Route 32)
you'll see The Kanaha Wildlife Sanctuary somewhat ironically situated
between retail outlets on one side and a petroleum refinery on
the other. Here the endangered Hawaiian Stilt & Hawaiian Coot
fight to repopulate their species. Stop by for a chance at an
excellent photo opportunity.
Maui
Tropical Plantation:
1670 Honoapiilani Hwy 244-7643 - From Wailuku take Hwy 30 (Honoapiilani)
South, and in the midst of empty fields with the West Maui Mountains
as a backdrop you'll come upon rows of papaya trees, banana plants,
palms, and more. With a restaurant, souvenir shop and tours of
the plantation it's well worth the visit.
Iao
Valley: From
Kahului Follow Route 32 through Wailuku and head straight towards
the West Maui Mountains or if you are coming from Honoapiilani
(Route 30) travel straight into Wailuku, and turn left at the
stoplight at W. Main Street. Along the way you'll pass the Bailey
House Museum, filled with artifacts and bits of history from Maui's
colorful past. As you continue up the road stay to the right and
head into the lush valley. There's also a couple of nice places
to stop along the way. Once you're there you can walk the trails
and view the "Iao Needle". Simply Gorgeous!
